Most people think that Rap really broke through when MTV started running RUN DMC's Rock Box. However, it didn't really hit the mainstream until this little gem here.

With lyrics penned by Ice T like:

Now everybody's got the time to pray

In 1990 Vanilla Ice revolutionised rap music by making it accessible to 13-year-old girls and in the process putting rap into a coma for years. A story goes that Suge Knight dangled him out of a hotel window in order to get royalties for Ice Ice Baby – He should’ve dropped him on his head for this.

Clean-cut rap group RUN DMC hadn’t had a hit album for years, so what did they do? They went the MC HAMMER route and tried Gansta Rap - this is the only good track off the mostly embarrassing album Down With The King.
